About the Global March to Jerusalem North America
The Global March to Jerusalem – North America (GMJ-NA) is an autonomous association of North American organizations and individuals planning to participate in a global march to Jerusalem on March 30, 2012. It will inform itself of the efforts of other groups around the world that are also planning to participate in the march, and will offer information to interested persons and organizations about its plans.
The participation of GMJ-NA is contingent upon the march and its participants conforming to certain principles and criteria. If that is not the case, GMJ-NA will choose not to participate, without prejudice to the free choice of other participants or of individuals or groups in GMJ-NA who choose to act independently. However, we will be governed by our own internal principles and protocols.
Origins of the Movement
Although the idea of a massive nonviolent march to Jerusalem has been discussed for decades, this particular project was born in February, 2011 of discussions initiated by organizers of and participants in the Asian Caravan to Gaza. Since then, it has expanded to other groups in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and North America. Four international planning meetings have taken place in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.
Origins of GMJ – NA
The GMJ – NA held its first two meetings in August, 2011 in San Francisco, and is seeking the endorsement of the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation. Thus far, ten organizations, mostly from the San Francisco Bay Area, have endorsed the project. In addition, we will be conducting a national workshop on September 18, 2011 at the organizers conference of the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation.
In order to endorse or participate, or for further information, please contact
organize@gmj-na.org or call 510-224-3518.
